A trained craft baker. Not just a bread enthusiast.

Martin is a qualified artisan baker specialising in sourdough and yeasted doughs.
He trained with Paul Merry at Panary — one of the UK’s most respected bread schools — and has since taken his skills to live audiences at country fairs across the UK, including a feature on BBC Escape to the Country.
His teaching style is calm, practical and science-led. You won’t just follow a recipe. You’ll understand what’s happening in your dough — and why.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any special equipment or a big kitchen?
No special kit needed, and no fancy kitchen required. Martin brings everything — ingredients, equipment, and all the tools you’ll use on the day. A standard worktop and an oven is all you need. If you’re not sure whether your space works, just ask — Martin is happy to advise before you book.
Can I buy a class as a gift?
Absolutely — Strong White gift vouchers are available and make a genuinely memorable present. The recipient chooses a date that suits them and books directly. Perfect for birthdays, Christmas, or anyone who’d rather have an experience than another thing they don’t need.
How far will I travel – and are there extra costs?
Travel is included within 30 miles of Deal, covering most of Kent — Canterbury, Faversham, Maidstone, Ashford, and everywhere between. Outside that radius, a small travel supplement may apply. If you’re on the edge or further out, just get in touch — Martin is flexible and will always give you a straight answer.
I’ve never baked bread before – is that OK?
It’s more than okay — complete beginners are welcome on every course. Martin teaches from first principles, so you’ll understand what you’re doing and why, not just follow instructions. By the end of the day you’ll have baked real bread and you’ll know exactly how to do it again at home.
Ready to bake something brilliant?
Book a course, gift an experience, or just call Martin for a chat. There’s no script — just an honest conversation about what you’d like to learn.
